This year I went with a "Mad Scientist" theme. I love adding quirky and hand made pieces to my parties. That is where real uniqueness comes from. I can't stand a 100% store bought party! My only regret about this party was that I wish I could have found some authentic test tubes to serve shots in- but sadly all I could find in my price range were plastic, kiddie test tubes- and they weren't quite spooky enough for my taste. :)
Now for some pictures!
Here's a close up shot of my tablescape before I put the food out. I even incorporated some creative names for my dishes for the night! Moldy Brain Discharge was Spinach Dip; Radioactive 7 Layer Dip was your traditional Mexican 7 Layer Dip; and of course you can't forget Vampire Blood and Cream Cheese (Raspberry Chipotle Sauce over Cream Cheese). Funny & Delicious!
It is important to me to create a cohesive look around my house and continue the theme through all elements of the event. One of the things I did was to print out black and white images of animal skeletons and hung them around the house to add to the Laboratory feel. Take a look at Specimen Number 6- if you dare!
The creepiness continues outside. I hand painted all the tombstones were painted with neon paint mixed with fluorescent glow in the dark paint.
Another tablescape shot- this time with all the treats!
A parting shot for the guests....
And, you know, my costume has got to work with my theme! I was a Lab Rat! As a side note- was the most comfortable Halloween costume ever. I think I might wear scrubs every year from now on!
